NCR Pads – All You Need to Know
NCR stands for No Carbon Required, which is also referred to by people as ‘carbonless’. This special paper negates the need for the messy blue carbon paper traditionally used for invoices, delivery notes and order pads, and coined the term ‘carbon copy’. NCR pads are particularly popular amongst businesses who need to provide duplicate or triplicate copies of paperwork, as they can be used quickly and easily. They can be printed to contain any information required, saving time and ensuring all necessary details are recorded. Below is everything you need to know about them:
What Makes Up an NCR Pad?
NCR pads (also known as duplicate pads or triplicate pads) are made up of a number of NCR sets. Sets are loose copies made up of 2, 3 or 4 parts (usually in a colour sequence such as yellow, green, blue). These sets are usually printed in black, but can also be printed in full colour and can easily include a company logo, for example. Or in a spot colour (to match a companies branding). They can also be printed on the reverse (e.g. terms and conditions of sale).
The sets can be glued on any edge to suit the users requirements, and include a loose writing shield or a bound-in wrap-around shield. This prevents the transfer of information from the set above to the set below. A board back is also included to create a study base for completing, and holes can be punched for filing of copies.
NCR pads can be made to almost any size to satisfy the needs of the business or individual for distributing or storing the finished copies.
How NCR Pads work
Writing firmly on the top copy creates pressure on the NCR sheet, which contains a coating on the reverse, and this is then transferred to the next copy through small capsules of dye, which burst on impact. Subsequent sheets contain a clay coated surface, with which the dye reacts, creating the duplicate information you see instantly and permanently.
